Twitter offers a wide range of functionalities — from allowing users to post new tweets in various formats such as text, images, and videos, to enabling them to follow others to curate a personalised newsfeed, view tweets from the accounts they follow in their timeline, and search for tweets based on keywords or topics of interest. With the number of daily active users (DAUs) as high as X's, providing these features in the blink of an eye can be a challenging job. You also wouldn't want twitter to go down frequently as it will be "bad for business". Long story short, the system should have high availability with minimal latency; and it should be scalable and efficient.
